His musical journey began at the tender age of 8, when he started studying tabla under the guidance of Ustad Pawan Kumar Verma and Professor Kirpal Singh. By the age of 10, he had already stepped into the profound world of classical Sikh kirtan and ghazal, learning from celebrated masters like Professor Jabarjang Singh and his own father, Bhai Bhupinder Singh Rangila. These formative years built a strong foundation in Indian classical music and devotional expression.
But it was at the age of 14 that his spiritual awakening truly ignited. Under the mentorship of his master teacher, Pandit Yashpaul of the Agra Gharana lineage, Gurnimit began to deeply explore the mysteries of the voice, vibration, and the subtle body. The teachings of his guru not only refined his musical prowess but also catalyzed his personal transformation. Later, integrating his study of Western vocal techniques with his Eastern training, Gurnimit developed a unique ability to bridge ancient practices with contemporary sound healing, creating an offering that is both timeless and accessible.
In 2009, his talent was discovered by the global Sikh diaspora. His heartfelt kirtan and his rare gift of translating mantras into English resonated deeply across cultures and continents. Gurnimit began travelling extensively, offering his voice at international festivals, pilgrimages, temples, and sacred gatherings.
However, in 2017, life took a devastating turn. After being outed as gay, Gurnimit faced intense rejection from traditional Sikh platforms and was forced to stop singing kirtan publicly within those communities. The trauma of exclusion, the pain of being silenced, and the loss of a sacred identity left deep scars.
But from that darkness, a new light emerged.
Gurnimit relocated to Vancouver, Canada, where he began a deep healing journey—one rooted in therapy, kriya yoga, pranayama, and self-inquiry. Slowly, the music returned—not as performance, but as medicine. In 2021, he began offering sound journeys, mantra practices, and throat chakra activation work within the yoga and healing communities. His voice, once silenced, now carried the resonance of lived truth and deep compassion.
Today, Naad Yogi Gurnimit Singh is a celebrated sound healer, teacher, and ceremonial guide. He travels across the globe leading transformational retreats, kirtan ceremonies, throat chakra mentorship programs, plant medicine journeys, holistic festivals, and sacred chanting workshops. Through every offering, he invites people to awaken the power of their own voice, to reclaim their truth, and to rise from silence into song.
Gurnimit’s work is more than music—it is a movement. A movement for inclusion, healing, and spiritual sovereignty. His story is a living testament to the power of resilience, authenticity, and the sacred sound current that flows through every heart.
